Iranian Court Sentences 3 to Death for Involvement in Post-Election Unrest: Via Voice of America.

An Iranian official says three people have been sentenced to death for involvement in unrest that developed after Iran's disputed presidential election in June.

The ISNA news agency quotes the court official as saying the three people were convicted of ties to an anti-government Iranian monarchist group - the Kingdom Assembly of Iran - and an exiled Iranian opposition group - the People's Mujahedeen Organization of Iran).

The official says the death sentences are not final and can be appealed in a higher court.

On Friday, an international human rights group expressed concern that more election protesters could be sentenced to death in Iran.

15 student leaders arrested in Tehran: Via Radio Zamaneh in English .

Fifteen members of central council of the student organization Unity Consolidation Bureau have been arrested by security forces today in Tehran. The detainees have been taken to an unknown location and so far no announcements concerning their charges have been released.

Prior to the opening of the fall university term, the Revolutionary Guards and security forces as well as the Supreme Leader himself had warned students to stay away from protests. The establishment has described student protests and their demands for reform as a tool of foreign conspiracies to undermine the government. The teaching of humanities has been portrayed as a threat to the rule of Velayat-e Faqih represented by Ayatollah Khamenei, a pretext which many feel will result in the dismissing of progressive faculty members.

Ahmadinejad Warns Against Anti-Iran Aggression: Via Voice of America.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is headed to New York for an appearance before the U.N. General Assembly. Before leaving Tehran, Mr. Ahmadinejad said no country is brave enough to attack his nation.

The Iranian president promised his armed forces would resist all invaders, and cut off the hands of anyone who tried to shoot at Iran.

Mr. Ahmadinejad spoke before a military parade that showcased the latest generation of Iranian-made rockets and aircraft. State media reported one plane crashed during the ceremonies.

Iran Frees Thousands of Poor Prisoners: Via Voice of America.

Iran says its largest charity organization is bailing out 21,000 prisoners for the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The gesture was announced Tuesday as the country marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan with Eid celebrations and family gatherings.

State television says the prisoners had been jailed for monetary troubles, such as unpaid debts or blood money. It says the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation bailed them out in an attempt to help their families regain financial stability.

Now, What does this blockade mean?

It could be a last-minute effort to prevent today's footage & pictures from getting out.
But it could also be sign of a second wave of arrests; they might try to arrest Musavi & Karrubi (Opposition leaders).
